Western Digital Elements 2 Tb external usb 2.0 Hard Drive September 7, 2010 S. Smith I have only had this a short Time(a few weeks) but this drive works easily, even flawlessly so far. I have used this drive with Windows Vista(UGHH!!)
and Ubuntu 10.04. I have had so far, NO problems with it. It does have the weird quirk of very quickly copying files at first, then with decreasing speed, but I can easily live with this, I have had far more serious quirks with computer related stuff. It plateaus at about 400 kb/s.
Extremely slow, no power button. September 7, 2010 Tristan Terry My external USB hard drives usually take about 1 minute to write 1gb of data to itself. This one takes about 2-3 minutes per gb of data. Thats ridiculous. There is no power button, so when I turn my computer on it turns on. What if I dont want it on? Its a waste of energy to have it on if I dont want it on. So I have to plug in to turn it on, unplug it to turn it off. Why couldnt they have just put a 13cent power button on it?
1 TB Hard Drive September 7, 2010 Rindoro This was my 1st External Hard Drive, bought it for the purpose of backing up my Computer. The instructions were very helpful and easy.
Setting up the Hard drive was simple and fast. Took less than 2 minutes, and that included taking the hard drive out of the box.
The design is slick and matches most Pc's. 1 Terabyte(TB) is a lot memory, and with the price, this External Hard Drive is a MUST.
Perfect for what I need September 7, 2010 M. Olson (Minneapolis, MN) I wanted an external hard drive with large capacity that I could plug into my Apple Airport Extreme to use as both a backup disk and LAN storage. It sits their quietly and works like a charm. It's not the fastest hard drive ever, but it is a great value for the money. I liked that it didn't come with any extra unnecessary software that would just get in the way.
Returned -- Couldn't Get Computer to Recognize Drive September 7, 2010 Val (CA) Everything worked easily until I tried to retrieve my photos stored on the drive; couldn't get the computer to recognize the drive. According to the WD website, this problem is prevalent. Was happy I didn't delete the photos from my camera.
Returned it to Amazon with no problems.
