Sweet USB Drive April 19, 2010 James Chan (Anaheim, CA United States) I love how the cable management is part of the drive. don't have to carry a second cable around. The built in partition that can not be removed is just so if you ever need the software it will always be available. Couldn't ask for a nicer design as buffalo has never disappointed me.
Change to NTFS, and this thing is great for BACKUP. April 6, 2010 Wai Hui (Hong Kong) Remember to change the file system to NTFS, and you can use it to backup any large files, such as Outlook PST file.
Don't expect to boot from this drive March 31, 2010 Jack B. R. B. (san diego, ca) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
You can't boot from it.
The drive is really nice, it's got a great design. I'm assuming the shock-proof is good, but don't expect to be able to use this as a drive to boot from. There is a virtual CD built into the flash which cannot be removed or disabled. This interferes with the boot process.
It's not a problem at all if you want to use the drive just as a drive to copy things to and from in finder/explorer fashion. There is no way to boot this drive though, if you are going to use this as a Time Machine drive, or clone you HD to it, don't expect it to appear as a startup drive, it won't. And you can't re-partition or do anything about it.
If you ever hope to boot with this, or foresee that you will want to at any point go with a different drive.
First dissappointment from Buffalo March 22, 2010 Walter in Black 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have used plenty of Buffalo drives for work and home, and have found them to be the most reliable enclosures I've ever had. However, with a cdfs partition on this drive that cannot be removed, this has to be one of the more annoying drives I've owned. This is the first Buffalo product I've had to return. I wish they left the choice of keeping their backup software on the drive in the customers hands like they did with older ministations.
"The CDFS partition contains utilities for encrypting and unlocking the drive. There is no way to remove it." From a Buffalo moderator
Not for the newby January 26, 2010 Prudent 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I use computers a lot and have several different portable drives. This one, with it's included software is the least simple to set-up and use. Fortunately, I understand what a "partitioned" drive is, and how file storage systems differ. If you aren't up on that, you're going to be frustrated. Otherwise, it is a nice piece of hardware.
